Protect and Support Your Gum Health
Gum disease is an oral health condition that can lead to further complications if left untreated. Our periodontal specialist is here to help treat and maintain the health of your gums.
Read on to learn about periodontology, and how our dental specialists can help restore your gum health.
What Is Periodontology?
Periodontology, also known as periodontics, focuses on supporting and protecting the gums against disease. Periodontists are experts in detecting and diagnosing the early signs of gum disease. Our in-house periodontist has a wealth of knowledge and expertise. No matter the severity of your case, our periodontal specialist is here to bring you back to health.
Periodontal Evaluation
Our doctor will evaluate your gums for any signs of disease development. Gum disease may not have any noticeable symptoms in its early stages, but later and noticeable symptoms include:
- Bleeding gums
- Inflamed or sore gums
- Mobility
- Halitosis
When caught early, the effects of periodontitis (the second stage of gum disease) can be treated, and even reversed. Our doctor uses specialized dental tools and training to accurately assess the health of your gums, and treatment plan accordingly.
Periodontal Maintenance
Scaling and Root Planing
Gum disease often occurs due to built-up plaque and tartar that forms pockets in your gums. To remove this type of build-up our specialist may need to use scaling and root planing methods. Removing plaque and tartar from under your gums will eliminate unhealthy bacteria, and promote healing.
Arestin® Gum Therapy
In addition to the deep cleaning of scaling and root planing, our periodontist may also apply Arestin® to prevent the gathering of unhealthy bacteria. Arestin can help reduce the depth of your gums’ pockets, leaving less room for bacteria to collect. This medication typically works for about two weeks, providing unmatched periodontal protection.
Laser Treatment (LANAP)
Patients struggling with periodontal disease may also benefit from laser therapy (LANAP). This precise treatment is a painless and gentle way to address gum disease that can also help reduce your recovery time! Laser dentistry is a safe method of treatment that provides unmatched accuracy.
Gum Grafting
Periodontal grafting utilizes donor gum tissue to repair and strengthen areas of receded, or thinning gingiva. The donor tissue is placed in areas with little to no gum tissue – concealing and improving areas of gumline recession.
Crown Lengthening
If you suffer from a “gummy” smile you may benefit from crown lengthening treatment. This treatment gently pulls back excess gum tissue to expose the appropriate length of the teeth. This procedure may also be performed to better accommodate dental restorations such as crowns or veneers.
